Although Phantom Menace was a bore, I thought Attack Of The Clones was fun. I showed it to my Newphew who is three and he loved it. Just the same as I loved the original movies when I was around that age (I also liked Alien and Misery-Pretty fucked up)

So what if Lucas is just doing this for the money. He wasn't always this way.

If you feel so bad about Lucas, go back and watch American graffiti, or even the original Star Wars for that matter.

What about the title? Supposedly it's Birth Of The Empire, though I heard a rumour that it was called Revenge Of The Sith.

Both in The Sun, though Birth Of The Empire was yesterday, so maybe it's true.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah but that would be boring and wouldn't have resulted in such a heated debate.

And as to that 'fanboy' or 'you're not a kid anymore' comment - surely it's fairly clear that with the prequels when comparing to the originals regardless of age or being a fan or not:
a) the actual story is weaker
b) the structuring of that story is very poor
c) the dialogue is weaker (the originals were pretty bad but the new ones are dire)
d) the acting is weaker (as c above)
e) the actual look is less interesting

IMO Lucas could resolve all of the above by putting a little more emphasis on his screenplay and worrying less about SFX and planet designs (he has the best people doing that for him). I think it's fair to point out where we think (rightly or wrongly) he is going wrong.

And they are definitely more toddler-friendly.

When I think about the new Star Wars movies, the only thing that goes through my head is the courtroom scene from the "Clerks" cartoon...

As I said Despin, I'll be going to see ep. III along with everyone else (including the others that slag him off). I guess the bitterness comes from the feeling that if given the chance, so many others could have done a better job than him! And I wouldn't be going to see it had it not been for episodes IV onwards!

The insults are deserved I feel in the sense that the man has been seduced by the lure of the computer! He's a god-damned CG junkie, and no-body at Skywalker Ranch has the balls to say; "Gee George, y'do realise that Jar-Jar Binks looks shit, talks shit, and is... shit!"

You mention pre-planning in other movies, but it has blatantly gotten worse in terms of general laziness, proven by the fact that eps. I and II are generally regarded as poor.

As for Indianna Jones and the earlier Star Wars films, if he could have- they'd all be 100% CG, and they'd all be ruined as a result.

Jackson is a good example because he knows why and when it's good to use CG, and when NOT. And fair enough, you may not have your tongue up anyone's ass, but I assure you this is not typical fanboy whining- if you've looked on the site and seen those clips then you must've seen some of the forum thread headings, and this thread has got nothing on that!

And I hate those, what they call "childrens programs" of today. I just wonder... might there be something related to these memories of the best movies and programs from our childhood in this matter..?

I think George Lucas can do what ever he likes with his 9 episodes. He invented it in the first place for christ sake! It's his, no matter how much you love the episodes 4-6 that you saw when you were children.

- Jari -

Ps. But I do agree that he could have done a better job as a director... And I also hate the "plastic looking" 3D work, but I love the storyline and waiting to see how it all ends in the episode 9 if he ever get's it done and not drop dead before. For me it's still the geatest saga in films.

Pps. I also think that in some point in the future the FXs are a common thing in every film (they allready are in hollywood) and George Lucas is making a good job developing these FXs so that they in some point might be "watchable" for us critical viewers. It's sad that he might be ruining the Star Wars while doing this...

Hey there.

"Talking of ignorant American film-makers, anyone watched any of the Star Wars 3 production clips on the official site?
There's one where after we see all the design work going on for the movie Lucas turns around and says; "Hey, I better start writing the script!"

"What a twat!"

Erm.. That's pretty standard practice though on something of this scale. When you are literally creating entire worlds and entire species and technologies.

I wouldn't say that makes him a "twat".

He may well know that his script is going to feature a water planet and a race of people that live on their... Or that their is going to be a new kind of death star style weapon of mass destruction. It makes perfect sense that he would get his crew to get right to work on it.

They are designing the worlds his script is set it.

I don't get how that makes him ignorant or what being American has to do with it.

Well it makes perfect sense to me....

"I really think a trained chimp could have turned in something better than TPM and AOTC - they truly are examples of terrible terrible film-making. What a mess! I like to pretend they don't even exist"

"I must add I was a HUGE Star Wars fan as a CHILD"

You do realise you are not a child now thought don't you?

"he has no credibility at all. He's a cheap sell-out whore!"

???

What and when did he sell out? When he made American Graffiti?

And what are you talking about "credibility"?

Man I enjoyed every star wars film I ever saw. I ain't no super fan though.

All the above sounds like the usual fanboy whining to me.

And it's very telling that every one of you are still going to see whatever this cheap, ignorant American sell out whore/twat makes next...

And people call HIM the idiot.

"I hope Peter Jackson's LOTR films (wads of cash with crediblity)"

You See tis is the thing with fanboys. The second Jackson makes something they don't like they will turn on him and just find someone new to worship.

Despin out.

fraid Im with Despin on this one.

Sure I loved the first 3 StarWars films as a kid, but that was then and this is now.

These days I find peoples loyalty to this franchise cringeworthy -

Lucas is obviously far more interested in business than film making - which he was never very good at anyway. He just hitched a ride with Speilburg for a while, before realising his skills were in business - selling plastic crap to kids.

The Star Wars films are promo's for his Industrial Light and Magic company, and adverts for toys.
Everyone knows that.

Because for many of my generation Star Wars was the first film they fell in love with - and they cant face up to the idea of a hero disapointing them - welcome to the world. Heros disapoint....

It seems to me that star wars fans constantly forgive Lucas for making shitty "films", and dutifully line up to buy tickets for his next, knowing that they wont enjoy it.
Why?
And why complain afterwards when you knew it would be shite?
They dont really care so long as there is banter and wingeing afterwards.

Really....move on.....he does NOT make films, these are promos.
